Description
GeoPyc – Volume and Density Analysis Using Dry-Medium Displacement
GeoPyc is an automated benchtop instrument for fast and accurate determination of the envelope volume and envelope density of solid materials. The instrument uses Micromeritics Dry Flo, a dry displacement medium consisting of small, rigid particles that pack closely around the sample surface without penetrating its pore structure.
The measurement is performed through a controlled compaction process in a precision chamber. First, the volume of the Dry Flo medium is measured, after which the measurement is repeated with the sample placed in the medium. The difference is used to determine the sample’s envelope volume and, together with the sample weight, its envelope density.
Fast and Reproducible Analysis
GeoPyc provides accurate and reproducible results, with an analysis completed in as little as 15 minutes. The controlled compaction process provides consistent measurement conditions between analyses.
Non-Destructive Testing
Dry Flo does not penetrate the pore structure of the sample and can easily be removed after analysis. The sample therefore remains intact and can be reused or subjected to further analysis.
Flexible Analysis of Different Materials and Sample Shapes
GeoPyc can be used for solid objects with both regular and irregular shapes. A range of sample chambers is available to accommodate different sample sizes.
Porosity Determination
By combining GeoPyc envelope density results with skeletal density measurements, additional information about the material’s pore volume and porosity can be obtained. This makes GeoPyc particularly useful for comprehensive material characterization.
Optional T.A.P. Density
GeoPyc can also be equipped with the T.A.P. Density option for analysis of the compressed bulk density of granular materials and powders. The system can be used for applications including pharmaceutical and electrochemical materials, and the method complies with ASTM D8097.
Simple and Automated Operation
The instrument is operated through an intelligent touchscreen interface, with fully automated data acquisition and reporting. Analysis methods can be programmed, stored, and reused, simplifying both routine analysis and quality control.
Results and reports include:
